A Wild Menagerie

010 I just took this baby quilt for long arm stitching the other day. I can’t wait to see it finished! The pattern came from a quilt magazine (no telling which one at this point with my shabby organizational skills) and is super easy! Big blocks and half square triangles! You can finish piecing in a day. I picked a print from the Acacia line by Tula Pink for my border and backing. I can’t recall who designed the elephant and peacock menagerie, but the selvedge is somewhere. Stay posted for finished pics!

Grrrr…Leopard Woman…
025024023021 I’m quite proud of this UFO–it has taken over five years from inception to completion. The hot pink leopard fabric is called Little Leopardess. Bam and I fell in love with it, but then learned that it had sold out everywhere in the US. I found it online at a small shop in the UK and placed an order for the 5+ yards they had left. And then the proprietors called me saying that they couldn’t ship to the US. Thwarted! But only temporarily…

A brainstorm hit and I realized that I had a UK contact who regularly visited the US. Several phone calls later–the deal was done! We got the last five yards of hot pink Little Leopardess anywhere in the world!

I have no idea about the anemone print in the center…I think it’s Heather Ross, judging by the soft, almost gauzy quality of the fabric and the dreamy, flowing print. The backing is blush rosette Minkee. I fell in love with all three of these fabrics. I gently hand quilted the anemone side to the rosette side with thick cotton DMC thread in undulating patterns. You can’t see the stitches on the rosette side by design. It was too pretty to mar with knots. I admit that two corners are a little wonky but who cares? It’s on my bed and keeping me warm while the polar vortex hits our town.

Did I mention that I LOVE this quilt? I love its provenance, the colors, the textures. And that it’s wild like me!
