Red Lopster Costume – Halloween 2006

My son, Patrick, pictured here, used to call lobsters “lopsters” and draw pictures of them with little mittens for crab claws. (Red Lobster was one of his favorite restaurants.) Inspired by his drawings, I constructed this costume for him in 2006, entirely from scratch. I couldn’t find a pattern. Just photos of Dame Judi Dench in a lobster outfit. When I first sewed the body together, complete with puffy panels full of stuffing, I forgot the ARM HOLES. He was a red burrito. Arm holes were cut into it, the tail was added, and crab claws were sewn and stuffed as well. The hood actually had wire-filled antennae, but they refused to stand up. I spray painted a foam ball and cut it in half for the eyes. It was so adorable and funny…just like my Peanut!
