Heather Ross Far Far Away Quilt

I have done lots of non-quilt posts, so I thought I’d get back to something big. This was my first entirely original design. Bam helped me dream up a pattern to accentuate a sampling of Heather Ross’ Far Far Away fabric line. The fabric is gorgeous, soft, double gauze, printed in sherbet-like colors with unicorns, frogs and meadows of dainty flowers. I have always loved unicorns (what little girl doesn’t?) and thought this would be a fantastic lap quilt. I decided to fussy-cut the unicorns and showcase them inside squares on point. (On Point meaning that the squares are turned on their tips to form diamonds–you’ll see) The gauze required a lot of Magic Sizing and careful piecing. Add sashing, a border, backing and binding…voila! It is the perfect summer weight quilt! (BTW, the quilt top is shown pinned to another quilt on a wall, so ignore the purple and blue flowers in the background.)
